Police Corporal Sacked For Raping 2 Year Old

  •

The Nigeria Police High Command has confirmed the dismissal of Police Corpral Anthony Onoja who allegedly raped a two- year old toddler at Kabayi area of Nasarawa state in September.

According to a statement issued by the spokesman of the Nigerian Police Force, CSP Frank Mba, yesterday, the ex-policeman was charged to Nasarawa High Court on 15th September, 2013, for the offence of rape, under charge sheet No NSD/77C/2013.

The statement further denies any form of complacency on the part of the police  in handling the case of the alleged rape against Anthony Onoja also confirmed that the suspect was dismissed after an in-house administrative disciplinary panel (Orderly Room) indicted him for the disciplinary offences of discreditable conduct and conduct unbecoming of a police officer.

Mba also stated that a full scale criminal investigation of the alleged offence of rape was conducted by the anti-human rights section of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Nasarawa State Police Command.

The statement further confirmed that the case diary was subsequently forwarded to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Nasarawa State Ministry of Justice, for legal advice.

“Based on the advice of the DPP, Anthony Onoja was charged to High Court 3 in Nasarawa State.

The prosecution of the ex-Police Cpl is being conducted by the office of the DPP and is on-going. These facts can be verified by any Nigerian or group who wishes to so do,” Mba said.

The Police however expressed displeasure in the way and manner some Nigerians discredited the Nigerian Police Force in the way the case was handled.

The statement held that the Police find it rather preposterous that Nigerians will insinuate that the Force concealed and thereby condoned the condemnable action of Anthony Onoja.

The IGP, Mohammed Abubakar, also appealed to the public to desist from rendering judgment against members of the Force for a singular misdeed of one of its member.

“The Force is like any institution in the country made up of persons who individually might not perfect in all ramifications,” IGP said.

He further assured Nigerians of the readiness of his administration to ensure that all essential components of his ongoing reforms are achieved and that the Force will remain focused in the discharge of its duties.
