The
bubble burst for a former operative of the Economic and Financial
Crimes Commission, EFCC, Femi Ajibade, as his former employers arraigned
him for allegedly forging his university degree.
A statement by the EFCC Head of Media and Publicity, Mr. Wilson
Uwujaren, said that the former operative of the anti-graft agency was
docked before Justice Olasumbo Goodluck of the FCT High Court, Abuja on a
two count charge bordering on forgery.
The EFCC spokesperson explained that the accused allegedly forged a
Bachelor of Science Degree Certificate of the University of Ilorin which
he used to secure employment into the commission.
He said that the forgery was discovered by the EFCC during a
certificate verification exercise considered a standard procedure for
the regularization of the employment of newly recruited personnel.
However, Uwujaren said that the accused pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him.
Ajibade is being accused of producing a Bachelor of Science Degree in
Geology and Mineral Sciences of the University of Ilorin, with a Second
Class Honours Upper Division.
The certificate with 004675, dated 24th November, 2004 was
purportedly signed by the Vice Chancellor and the Registrar of the
university, which purportedly awarded him with the degree.
If you ask me that things like this can happen in a supposed crime fighting agency, who i go ask?
