Chika Amalaha Tested Positive Because She Drank ‘Zobo’ - Coach

Treasurer of Nigeria Weighlifting Coaches Association, Andrew Ekanem has revealed that Chika Amalaha, who was stripped of her gold medal after testing positive to a banned substance at the just concluded Commonwealth Games, might have allegedly got the prohibited substance from her consistent drinking of a local drink called ‘Zobo’

Amalaha, 16, who won the women’s 53kg competition, provided positive “A” and “B” samples that contained prohibited diuretics and masking agents and had to be stripped of the medal she won. Ekanem believes she was the architect of her own misfortune by drinking ‘zobo’. Ekanem said on Brila FM early today that Amalaha had been warned several times against drinking ‘Zobo’, but all the entreaties fell on deaf ears.

The couple, who refused to reveal their surnames, spent their lives trying to find their respective mothers, who were both called Maria, and had both abandoned their children when they were still babies.

But neither could have imagined that the women they had both been searching for could have been the same person. Continue…

Adriana, a cosmetics saleswoman, hadn’t seen her estranged mother since she was one year old, leaving her to be raised by the her father. Meanwhile, truck driver Leandro, who was brought up by his stepmother, knew his mother had also abandoned him in his hometown of Sao Paulo when he was eight years old.

While Leandro remained in the city, Adriana left their hometown to work as a housemaid, married for 15 years and had three children.

Ebola: US Not Sending Experimental Drug To Africa Yet – Obama

US President Barack Obama said it was too soon to send experimental drugs for the treatment of Ebola to West Africa, which has been hardest hit by the deadly outbreak.
Obama on Wednesday said affected countries should instead focus on building a “strong public infrastructure,” adding: “I think we have to let the science guide us. And I don’t think all the information is in on whether this drug is helpful.”
The decision to use an experimental drug to treat two Americans infected with Ebola, while nearly 1,000 Africans have already died from the deadly epidemic, has sparked controversy.

Saudi Arabia Suspends Hajj Visas For Ebola Hit Countries

The Embassy of Saudi Arabia suspended visas of 7,200 pilgrims from three African countries — Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia — as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of the disease among the pilgrims during the forthcoming Haj season.
Mohammad Al-Homoud, charge d’affaires at the Saudi Embassy in the Guinean capital Conakry, said the decision to suspend the visas was issued some time back.

“The governments in these countries were very much understanding of the decision, which aims mainly to boost prevention measures against the spread of the virus because the second wave of it has already kicked off,” added Al-Homoud.
He said these countries also want to make sure its citizens are free of the virus, adding: “The fact that the virus is still spreading compels us to continue the suspension of visas for this Haj season.”

The talks between the Saudi Embassy in Conakry and the governments of these countries started four months ago.
Meanwhile, Saudi Ambassador in Guinea Amjad Bedaiwi told local media that the Kingdom has put a condition that the suspension of visas will be reviewed only after World Health Organization (WHO) issues a clear cut statement that citizens in these countries are allowed to travel for Haj.
Bedaiwi said the embassy extensively discussed the issue with the Guinean government, an Islamic state, where the number of its pilgrims comes to nearly 7,000 as against 400 others from both Sierra Leone and Liberia.

On the other hand, Jeddah health department issued strict directions to air and sea borders’ outlets to enhance its procedures and prevent the coming of the Ebola virus-infected pilgrims.

An official source at Jeddah health department stated that the measures involve monitoring the epidemic in general and checking all the incoming passengers from the neighboring African countries that recorded cases of the disease to ensure that no one with a case of infection with the virus enters the Kingdom.

Dr. Khalid Obaid Bawaked, assistant director of Public Health Department in Jeddah, said the measures will ensure that the virus will not enter the country.

“The Ebola virus is a very dangerous disease once its first symptoms appear. The precautionary measures and the enforcement of the strict health conditions are very important, mainly because of the forthcoming Haj season where the guests of God come from all around the world,” said Bawaked.

“The Ebola hemorrhagic fever caused by the virus is one of the most known lethal diseases,” he said, adding that the virus was first discovered in 1976 in a tropical district to the west of Sudan, near Zaire (now called the Democratic Republic of Congo).
But the virus did not record any case outside middle and east Africa. There are five strains of the virus — Bundibugyo, Ebola-Cote d’Ivoire, Ebola-Reston, and the Ebola-Zaire and Sudan.

The virus enters the body by touching the body fluids of an infected patient, such as his blood or the other fluids. The virus can be transmitted also to humans when dealing with wild animals carrying the virus such as chimpanzees, gorillas, monkeys, antelopes and fruits’ bats, whether sick or dead.

Up till now, there is neither an effective qualitative cure for the disease nor vaccine. The treatment is generally limited to providing supportive care.

Severe conditions of the disease require the provision of intensive supportive care for patients who often suffer from dehydration, and badly need the administration of fluids using solutions containing electrolytes.

And because there is no effective cure or vaccine for the prevention or treatment of the disease up till this very day, precautionary and preventive measures are the only way to limit cases of infection and deaths among people.

WHO recently said death cases as a result of the Ebola virus in Africa had increased to 887 deaths. The WHO statement added that there are 1,603 cases of infection with the virus in four west African states, of which there are 485 cases in Guinea, 468 in Liberia, 646 in Sierra Leone and 4 in Nigeria.

Genevieve Nnaji Lesbian Saga Has Affected Me ––Actress Ella

The story that actress/musician, Ella Martins and Genevieve Nnaji, are lesbian partners was actually broken by an online magazine last year and it created a big buzz. Though both Ella Martins and Geneiveve swiftly reacted to squash it all but it would seem the echoes are still being heard as Ella revealed in this chat that she is still being haunted by the scandal. Here's what she told Potpourri about the saga:

You became popular in Nigeria after that allegation of lesbianism between you and Genevieve. How did that little scandal affect you and your career?
Yes, it has affected my emotional life, because everybody now believes I am in a relationship with Genny and  my family is not happy about it. It has really affected my career and image at home.

What actually happened between you and Genny that sparked the allegation?
Hmm, you know I speak more of French than English, so, it is a little hard for me to express myself fully. What happened is that Genny and I were in a club in Lagos and her phone got missing. Later, I think a paparazzi or someone got hold of it and started sharing some contents about me and Genny online. I don’t see anything abnormal in the pictures but people started talking that we must be lesbians and all.

What kind of pictures are you talking about?
As normal persons and friends, we do take normal pictures at home and in other places but I don’t know why the online magazine showed Genevieve and I kissing, I am surprised and don’t know where they got those pictures from.

So, you and Genevieve were never kissing each other in any pictures you took together?
We kissed, but it was nothing extraordinary, it was normal kiss between girls. I mean girls do kiss each other normally, even guys do too. When I was dating Fally Ipupa we used to kiss and now that we are separated and are good friends we still continue kissing like we used to. My fear is I receive strange calls saying that in a few days’ time they will be releasing more pictures about us.

You still received calls over the incident?
I am a very popular figure in my country and a lot of people are jealous of me. So many of them would like to see me go down and this may be a good excuse for them to start something.

When they call you on phone, do they ask for anything or sound like blackmailers?
No, just to say they will expose our dirty secret and I don’t have any dirty secret.

If you have no dirty secret why are you now scared?
You don’t understand, even the pictures they released online was worked on, adulterated to make it look different from the actual pictures. We kissed as normal girls, not as romantically or sexually as they projected in the pictures posted online.

What is the relationship between you and Genevieve Nnaji?
We have been good friends since 2004. We met when Kennis Music organised an award and since then we have been good friends. We talk often and whenever I am in Lagos we meet up and have fun as friends. I have had no peace since the pictures leaked online. Everybody now calls me Genny’s wife back home.

Sincerely, are you and Genevieve Nnaji sexually involved?
No, never. I am neither a lesbian nor is Genevieve. We are just two close friends, showing profound emotions for each other by kissing.

It seems the Beninoise actress is staying away from Genny these days to avoid further speculations.

Fight At Foursquare Church In Lagos Over Plot To Arrest Pastor

The dispute between the Headquarters of Foursquare Gospel Church and one of its parishes has deepened. It took fresh twist on Sunday when policemen from Zone 2, Onikan, Lagos, stormed Livingspring Tabernacle in Ikorodu on the outskirts of the state, to arrest its senior pastor, Rev. Isaac Adeyemi.

The policemen acting on instructions from the church’s board of directors had on Saturday gone to Adeyemi’s house to arrest him, but picked up his 25-year-old son, Peter, when they didn’t meet their target.

They repeated the visit on Sunday, at the church’s premises, but met a brick wall in their attempt to take away the pastor. They were accompanied by officials from the church’s headquarters in a white coaster bus.
