Controversy
is still trailing the resignation of Aliyu Gusau and his purported return to the
cabinet:
The Presidency and the Ministry of Defence on Wednesday denied reports that the Minister of Defence, Lt.-Gen. Aliyu Gusau, had resigned his appointment. But surprisingly, Gusau was the only Minister who refused to attend the Federal Executive Council meeting in Aso Rock on Wednesday.
Despite the denials by Reuben Abati and other jobbers in the Presidency,
the truth of the matter is that Gusau indeed resigned and declared that he wont
have anything to do with a government that lacks respect.
President Goodluck Jonathan personally begged him to stay. Gen Ibrahim
Babangida and David Mark, were also employed to beg the respected intelligence
officer to save President Jonathan the big embarrassment.
“This was the reason the President asked Mark and Babangida to intervene by speaking with Gusau, which they did. The two of them spoke with Gusau and he agreed to stay back. The issues he raised that made him want to leave office are being resolved. I know that sooner than later, heads would roll in the military.”
While a source who spoke to Punch confirmed that
the Presidency indeed begged Gusau, another top source in Abuja told OluFamous.Com
that Gusau is very angry at the moment because of the way he was insulted by the
military chiefs, but has refused to speak due to the intervention of "some
Northern elders".
“I can tell you that the military and everybody were surprised that Gusau
wanted to leave the job. Although his threat of resignation would be denied by
the Ministry of Defence, I can tell you that they won’t tell you the details of
what transpired,” the source added.
For now, the Presidency is trying all they could to paint a picture that all his well. The drama is still going on.
